Event Details
St. Francis de Sales is the patron saint of journalists and the Catholic media. This we know – or should know. But why? Who was he, exactly? What were the primary teachings of this Bishop and Doctor of the Church? Br. Francis de Sales Wagner, OSB, a Benedictine monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey in Indiana, will explore such questions in this webinar. A former newspaper reporter and editor, he will also provide a glimpse into his own vocation, how Francis de Sales serves as a guidepost along that journey, and how this 17th-century saint remains a model for journalists and Catholic media in today’s world.
Br. Francis de Sales Wagner, OSB, is a native of northwest Ohio and joined the monastery at Saint Meinrad in 2006 after 17 years as a newspaper reporter and editor. Since joining the monastery, he has been a writer/editor for Abbey Press (2006-2014), a conference presenter for Saint Meinrad’s Benedictine Oblates (2008-2020), secretary to the Archabbot (2015-2025), and a spiritual director (2011-present). He is the author/editor of several books and articles in the realms of spirituality and pastoral care. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University (1988), as well as a master’s degree in pastoral theology (2012) and a graduate certificate in spiritual direction (2016), both from Saint Meinrad.
