Step Away from the Noise of the World This October and Discover The Franciscan Way of Life during Franciscan Month

This October, people seeking a deeper sense of peace, purpose, and spiritual renewal are invited to journey with St. Francis of Assisi throughout Franciscan Month. Rooted in the teachings and example of St. Francis and St. Clare, this month-long initiative encourages people to pause from the noise of everyday life and discover the simplicity, gratitude, and joy at the heart of the Franciscan way.

This year, the invitation also points to a special celebration — the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’ Transitus. To honor this special feast, Franciscan organizations from across the country collaborated to enhance Franciscan Month’s website and offer a host of resources for people to enter more deeply into the spirituality and transitus of St. Francis. Some of these resources include reflections, events, prayers, and other devotional content that span topics from how to care for the earth to living the Gospel and embracing a life of purpose and service.

“Franciscan Month is a time to experience living life in a simple way, while caring for the world and for each other, and we hope that these experiences carry beyond this month. The inspiration for this month comes from the life of St. Francis, someone who chose to live with less so he could live more freely.”

Br. Gregory Cellini, O.S.F., Director of the Office of Mission, Ministry and Interfaith Dialogue, St. Francis College (Brooklyn, NY)

Franciscan Month was launched in October 2023, after St. Francis College organized a series of daily Franciscan reflections entitled “All Good Things.” Br. Gregory took the lead in organizing The Month of St. Francis and expanding it beyond the College to the national collaboration and recognition it has today among Franciscans and Franciscan-hearted communities.

Some of the organizations that have participated this year include the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities, Franciscan Action Network, Franciscan Federation, Franciscan Friars of the Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Order of Friars Minor, Capuchins, Order of Friars Minor, Conventuals, Poor Clares, the Secular Franciscan Order and many others.

This month’s invitation is for people everywhere to discover that the story of St. Francis is a living example of how faith, simplicity, compassion, and joy can transform lives today.
